Updates due to postponement due to Corona virus concerns
Hello Spring Thingers :-)
an ongoing experiment of making lemonade
We are officially POSTPONING the in-person Spectacularly Splendiferous Spring Thingy until a future currently unknown date. Refunds will be coming to you post-haste. We're feeling a Love Gap. We wish to help bridge the Love Gap with some creative community sourced connection! What is that? I don't know! Let's find out together!
We're proposing a heart-storm Zoom call, which you can join with your ideas and feedback next Friday, March 20th from 1:35pm to 3:00pm Pacific. We hope to leave the call with some actionable ideas to offer the community, such as:
an online Zegg Forum
an online Meditation
Empathy circle including eye-gazing dyads
A Going Deeper Dive with breakouts into small groups and large group harvest
a "Transparency Dance"
Open Sourced day where community offers workshops or classes online
Brian Bourke, Fred Burks, Kate Gilligan, Otter Heartfountain, Miles Hurwitz, Wolf Lindley, Jaime Prieto, Ken Seehart, Timo Shaw, and Alara Tiernan.
What's this Spring Thing?
Spring Thing embraces the ethos of New Culture, which is beautifully described in the following quotes from our sister organizations:
“NFNC [Network For a New Culture] seeks to build a sustainable, violence-free culture through exploring intimacy, personal growth, transparency, radical honesty, equality, compassion, sexual freedom, and the power of community.” ― http://www.nfnc.org/
"New Culture seeks to create environments where authenticity, transparency and honesty are deeply valued and encouraged. When we connect from the deep heart, a magical world of love, harmony, fulfillment, intimacy and joy becomes possible for us and the planet." - Autumn Camp, New Culture Northern California (NCNC)
"New Culture" is about creating sustainable, rich, intimate personal relationships, along with a sustainable world to enjoy them in, based on transparency, delight, freedom, and community. In order to create a New Culture in our lives and in the larger society, we put on events that help us develop the skills we need to make that real, including communication, self-knowledge, presence, conflict resolution, and effective activism. - http://www.new-culture.org/ (world-wide New Culture groups and events info page)

Want to present something awesome at Spring Thing?
We'd love to hear from you. Please send us a bio, a photo, and a description of your offering to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that there are very few presenter slots because we offer a single track workshop experience; there are not multiple simultaneous offerings. This way, the entire camp can attend together (except those who opt out), which provides deepening community bond and shared tool-sets available for use throughout camp.
*Please send your offering ASAP because if the planning team selects your presentation for the main schedule, we'd like to add it to the website.
Building Community by Making Music Together
Singing! Drum Circles! Jam Sessions! Where music happens, community happens! Bring your voices, songs, and instruments to share!
Check out this article about the science of how music strengthens social bonds.
Community sourced needs meeting activities
Working together builds community. Doing something real together such as helping prepare a meal allows us to experience people in a different kind of setting, and to practice the relationship skills that we will be learning. If you have a physical challenge that would make it difficult for you to contribute, please check in with us before camp. Different options include: meal prep, meal clean, snacks, sanctuary beautification, sheet cleaning and main room refresh. We will send out Karma Yoga signup closer to the start of camp.

Spring Thing: How Read Can We Be?
Venture Retreat Center
Nestled among ancient redwoods and located only about an hour away from San Francisco, San Jose, and Santa Cruz, our beautiful venue includes a Main Lodge, Serenity Yurt, Camping Meadow, large deck, pool, hot tub, fire circle, indoor/outdoor showers and potties.
We strongly encourage you to bring your tent and sleeping bag and enjoy the gorgeous Camping Meadow...especially if you're local. There is a limited amount of shared dorm space available, which we're prioritizing for campers traveling from out of the area and those with special needs such as CPAP or mobility issues that make camping a challenge. To arrange for a dorm bed, and for more information, please email email@example.com.
Camp Dates: Thursday April 2nd thru Wednesday April 8th
Event tuition: $575–$1000 sliding scale
Early bird rate (first 15 registrations): $525–$900 sliding scale
Registration includes meals from Lunch on Thursday, 4/2 through Brunch on Wednesday, 4/8. Please arrive on the property between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday (lunch will be available 1–2:00). Tuition includes tent camping, dry RV/vehicle camping and limited shared dorm space by prior arrangement.
Early arrival is offered on Wednesday 4/1 for the Venture Retreat grounds fee of $65. Early arrival provides a lovely opportunity to ease into Spring Thing. You are welcome to take time for yourself – relax by the pool, soak in the hot tub, have a bonfire, sleep-in…. and/or help with any setup activities underway. Those who have participated in early arrival commented on how relaxing it was and how ready they were to connect with the larger community. We will advise of onsite dinner and breakfast options Wednesday evening and Thursday morning for an additional fee closer to the beginning of Spring Thing.
